PARENTING AS PART OF SCHOOL CURRICULUM PDF Print E-mail

The FREE AUSTRALIA PARTY proposes that parenting techniques be taught to every high school student as part of a nationwide education scheme to better prepare our future generation of parents to raise children.  These techniques will cover the different parenting types and what the consequences are to children for the style used.  Currently schools teach sex education classes, but fall short by not teaching parenting skills as an extra preventative measure to potential parents.

We are failing our children by not preparing them for parenthood.  This has resulted in some new parents feeling overwhelmed, an increase in the necessity for intervention by family welfare agencies, an exponential growth in the numbers of children going into foster care, and a clear example where preventative education could have significant impact on the stability of future Australian households.

This national education scheme could easily be afforded if funds were channelled into people as opposed to bricks and mortar.  Our children need an education in basic life skills.  It is one thing to throw money around for buildings, but it is quite another to throw money at something that is not quite as measurable in the short term as to invest in the education of Australian children.
